A couple weeks ago my cousin Cindy showed me this submission she created for a design team spot at Scrap In Style. I was in awe; what an amazing project!!!! She has, single-handedly, taken the empty "paint" jar to another level in my opinion. I continue to be totally enamored by Cindy's creativity and artwork. When you have the time please peruse her gallery at Scrap In Style. I promise that Cindy will inspire you to think outside of the box and explore your creativity in new ways. She does not have a blog (collective GASP) so this gallery will have to suffice.
Cindy Ellen Russell is a professional photographer, a busy mommy to a 5-year-old daughter (Cheo), and is a design team member to a couple companies. Companies pursued Cindy to design for them, not the other way around... That's how talented she is!
So this is my take on the lantern, although it is nothing compared to the original. I originally had Prima flowers in place of the tulips, but what I found is that the image has to be bold to stand out in the small light. The light source is a faux tea candle; it's a LED light that is supposed to last for a 100 hours. It's most likely at your local craft store (in Hawaii it's about 10 dollars for a pack of 4). I use them especially at Halloween in place of an actual candle for our Jack-O-lanterns. The great thing about these lights is that they actually flicker making them even more believable. Cindy has a tutorial for these lanterns at SIS. My take on the lantern is geared for the SU demonstrator and consumer. I'll have you know that I spent about 4 hours making this darn thing. It doesn't look like it, I know, but I couldn't figure out what I was going to use as "grass". I cut strips of paper, ran it through the crimper. NO. I shredded ribbon. NO, NO! I unearthed my fibers. NO, NO, NO. I finally resorted to cheesy Easter grass. It actually looked decent. The translucent quality of the grass is favorable for this project, making pretty reflections off the tea light. Okay, I'm babbling now... Mahalo for looking! And Mahalo Cindy for letting me share your beautiful idea!!!
