Good Morning! I decided to give Kristina's Color Inspiration #5 a whirl. I substituted Close to Cocoa with Chocolate Chip because I didn't have a sheet big enough to make the base. (In my last SU order I accidentally ordered 2 packs of Chocolate Chip instead of 1 Chocolate Chip and 1 Close to Cocoa. Duh!) Oh well, can you really have enough Chocolate Chip cardstock! This is also my entry to Splitcoast Challenge SC172.
Anyway, this is her inspiration from Pottery Barn.
Certainly Celery. Bashful Blue. So Saffron. Close to Cocoa.
Here's what I came up with...
And the video...
Isn't the song so beautiful and uplifting?! It's by Kate Voegele / "It's Only Life".
This card is very special; it's dedicated to all the employees of Aloha Airlines. "Yesterday was the end of Aloha jobs for 1,900 of the company's 3,500 employees" according to the Star Bulletin. For 61 years Aloha Airlines served the people of Hawai'i as a top-notch inter-island carrier with some flights to the west coast as well. This is also one of the "largest mass firings Hawai'i has ever seen" (The Honolulu Advertiser, 2008). It is truly a very sad day in the state of Hawai'i.
But this state is strong. Like Stitch and Lilo said, "Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind!" The people of Hawai'i have come through once again. Local newspaper websites have been flooded with job opportunities and words of support and encouragement for the former employees of Aloha Airlines from local companies and residents of the island! It is amazing to see how this state can rally together. It touches my heart.
So this is my small contribution to help uplift the spirits of the Aloha Airlines family. For four years now you have brought Papa and Nana from Kaua'i to Oahu safely. You have brought my family safely to them as well. For this I thank you. Mahalo, Aloha...
Well there's a first for everything right? This card was full of them.
1). First time doing voice over. Hmmm, not so good. I hate my voice.
2). First time using Build-A-Flower. Like I said, I've had this for a long, long time. Never used it cause I couldn't. I tried, literally every day. Never worked. I forced myself to use it the other night. I started by picking the Bashful Blue flowers. Which leads us to our next first...
3). First time using Color Coach. I bought this out of curiosity. I wanted to see how easy it was to use and if I liked the color suggestions. It was easy to use and I liked the color combinations. I actually have pretty strict rules when it comes to my art. THERE ARE NO RULES!!! Very important to know. I feel VERY strongly that if you're feelin' it - GO FOR IT! Who cares!? Who's to say this goes with that and NOT with that. If you like, and it looks good to you, then do it. How many people, do you suppose, suggested to Jackson Pollock that splashes of paint is not art? Unless you're in publishing and have to appeal to a mass market don't worry about it. I'm just sharing with you my perspective and how I go about my crafting; I'm in no way an expert, just a fellow crafter who likes sharing my hobby with others. I hope that you take what I suggest with a grain of salt - use what you like and modify all you want! =) Follow your creative heart, experiment, and most of all have fun!
4). First time using the embossing buddy in a video. I've experimented with the embossing buddy to see if it was effective on different papers and products. I have an official love/hate relationship with it. It works on paper as an effective anti-static device, but it leaves this residue on the cardstock and your hands that I really don't like. It also leaves a haze when you use it on dark cardstock that I don't particularly care for either. I do, however, like to use it as a tack remover on stickers. When you want to use a sticker as a dimensional embellishment you can take the tack off the back and prevent it from sticking to your project with the embossing buddy. Another great use for the embossing buddy is using it to rub off film on stamps. This oily film can sometimes inhibit an even image when stamped. The embossing buddy takes that film off and allows the ink to adhere to the stamp thereby giving you a nice even image when stamped.
5). First time I used a SU rub-on on ribbon. It worked great. The SU rub-ons are really one of the best I've ever worked with. It transfers effortlessly, on almost anything, and are beautiful!
Here's a card I made using Afternoon Tea! I just love Afternoon Tea. The papers just make me happy. I will list the products and catalog numbers as much as I can for future posts and videos. You can contact your local SU demonstrator to place an order if you like the products. If you live in Hawaii you can contact me if you'd like too.
