Hope all of you are having a fabulous Monday. Here is my meager attempt at a Copic tutorial. Video wise, it's not what I wanted, but it's the best I can do with the equipment that I have. Content wise, it's sufficient. I think I get my basic points across, hopefully.
I devised this method out of both economical and technical frustrations. As you all know, Copics are pricey, so I wanted to create a way to get beautiful results without having to buy every single pen. Technically I was frustrated because it was hard to blend colors in small, itsy-bitsy areas that stamped images have. I was not getting the color gradations that I was looking for. My method allows me to achieve color gradations in small spaces while saving some money at the same time.
Anyhoot, here is my disclaimer... I am NOT a certified Copics instructor or designer. I am merely sharing, with all of you, the way I use my Copics; it's my own economical approach to these costly pens. This video is for entertainment purposes only! What a way to be entertained! heehee
Remember if the video is saying no longer available, it may still be processing on the YouTube side.

I love this tutorial. I went out to buy copics a few weeks ago but I thought I had to get three of each color family and I was not sure of what numbers to buy or how many so I didn't get any. It would have cost too much. Now I can go back with what you said in mind. Also thank you for the light source tip. Great idea. I am going to try it. Thank you so much for sharing.

Love the Copic 101 class! That tutorial will help me out on a future purchase of Copics. I've always wondered what colors to choose first.

Thanks for the Copic 101 class. I was wondering what's the best colors to start with when buying Copic?
Posted by: Amenda | September 29, 2008 at 08:28 PM
Great tutorial jenn!! Thanks! Can you tell me where on Oahu you purchase your Copics?? Nowhere on Maui carries them, so I've only ordered online (which is not the best situation for me). We'll be on Oahu in a few weeks and I'd love to pick up a few more in person - any other Oahu craft shopping tips you have would be much appreciated!! Mahalo!

Thanks so much for the supah' tutorial! I actually have tried this method before (I can't remember exactly what results I got.. haha!) But now I must figure out which of those 'light' colors I already own or MUST have. (I'll try to note down the ones you've used in past cards.)

Thanks Jenn! I bought several pens awhile ago and tried to color like you do but I gave up! hahaha! Now I can try and practice again!

THANK YOU! That was a fantastic tutorial! I think I'll have to pop over to Wallacks Art Supply to see if they carry Copics. I had no idea it was like a "blender pen" technique.
Still working on my hilites & shadows. I know what looks right & wrong, when it's done, but getting it that way is another story.
Thanks for the Ultra fine embossing tip too. Please know how much your work is appreciated. Blessings.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just started buying Copic markers based on the colors you use. I love your work and figured I'd get colors you use most often. Love how you mix the colors. Thanks again! Your work is beautiful!

Mahalo for sharing your tips & for making the tutorial! I was trying to collect each copic color range & tediously using my colorless marker to shade but your method is much more economical & much more effective!! Your cards are so beautiful! Aloha, Vina

Thanks ever so much for the tutorial it was a great help! The 'swirl' technique you used is the same technique that I use for stenciling. I had no idea markers could be used the same way as I use paints. Now I have to try this with some of my other markers.
Please keep the video tutorials coming they are a great help and your work is just beautiful!
Thanx Again!

Thank you so much for sharing this technique with us! I would love to get more into the Copic markers but like you said they are quite pricey. Two markers in a color family is a little more affordable than 3.. Love your cards and love your blog! Thanks again!

What a fantastic tutorial!! I've been putting off buying Copics because I have such a huge collection of ChartPaks already, but I really like the tips to these markers - and I think you may have just sold me on them. At least now I can buy a select few now that I understand the number system!! THANKS!! You've got a great blog - I'm adding you to my blog roll for sure!

Great video! I've been purchasing these one at a time with a Hobby Lobby coupon. Your way of blending makes so much sense and will help with my gradual accumulation of Copics! BTW, here in Illinois HL sells them for $5.89 so not too much less than the $6 you mention there in HI.
Also I was wondering what stamp company that cute little "guy" is from. Thanks!

I have recently bought some Letraset Pro markers (another alcohol based marker) and am playing with them now. I wish i had found your blog earlier as te last part I coloured with your tips in mund looks so much better than the rest. Thanks again! love, Clare x

Thank you for this tutorial. I learned so much. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to create backgrounds, such as sky. I find it so difficult to creat backgrounds with my Copics.
Thank you again for taking time to share your talent. Wendy Gorton

Thankyou so much for making this video. I was trying to think of a way to preserve the ink as it's hard enough to come up with the money in the first place! LOL and then to have to buy refills...ugh...I am purchasing all 144 ciaos at Christmas. I CAN'T WAIT!! heeheheee and this is SO helpful! I have bookmarked your site. BTW! I'm an LPN and have been for over 20+ years. :) Are you a nurse practitioner now? just curious. Have a great day! OH also, I wanted to ask, I use PTI white CS. Would that work with the ciaos? thanks for any help!
